Refrigerated transport UK & Europe – chilled and frozen haulage
Refrigerated transport in the UK and to Europe — fresh and frozen food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, wine and flowers held at the set temperature from collection to delivery, with the temperature record handed over with the proof of delivery. Reefer groupage from a single pallet on our regular UK↔Europe lanes, refrigerated vans for small batches, dedicated reefer trailers for full loads and mixed regimes.
Tell us the temperature, pallet count and route through the quote form and we come back with a firm price and the earliest departure.
Refrigerated transport – temperature ranges and how it works
Temperature-controlled transport covers three main regimes: frozen at −18 °C and below, chilled from 0 to +4 °C for meat, dairy, fruit and vegetables, and controlled ambient +15 to +25 °C for chocolate, beverages, cosmetics and most pharmaceuticals (with +2…+8 °C for cold-chain medicines). Our reefer trailers and vans hold the set temperature regardless of outside conditions and record it throughout the journey – on request you receive the temperature log with the proof of delivery, which is what food safety audits and pharma GDP documentation ask for.
What we carry under temperature control
- Fresh and frozen food – meat, fish, dairy, fruit and vegetables, ready meals, bakery, ice cream.
- Pharmaceuticals and medical supplies requiring +2…+8 °C or +15…+25 °C, with the temperature record for GDP compliance.
- Cosmetics, wine and beverages, chocolate and confectionery that must not freeze or overheat.
- Flowers and plants, seeds and planting material.
Reefer groupage from one pallet, or a dedicated truck
On our UK↔Europe lanes chilled and ambient-controlled shipments travel as groupage from a single pallet, sharing a reefer trailer with goods at the same temperature. Frozen goods, mixed regimes or an urgent delivery get a dedicated reefer truck (up to 33 euro pallets – a reefer trailer takes 1–2 pallets fewer than a dry van because of the thicker walls) or a refrigerated van for smaller batches.
UK↔EU: customs and SPS paperwork for food
Since Brexit food of animal origin, plants and plant products moving between Great Britain and the EU need health or phytosanitary certificates in addition to the customs declaration, and must enter through a border control post. We plan the route around the BCP, check the certificates before loading and time the crossing so the load does not wait at the border with the fridge running.
What refrigerated transport requires from you
- Pre-cool the goods to transport temperature – the unit maintains temperature, it does not chill a warm load.
- State the exact temperature and the allowed deviation on the booking and in box 13 of the CMR.
- Packaging that allows air circulation – no tight film down to the pallet floor for chilled products.
The price depends on the regime, distance, groupage or dedicated vehicle, season and the customs/SPS work on UK↔EU lanes. Send the temperature, pallet count and route and we come back with a firm offer.
Frequently asked questions
Can I send one chilled pallet to Europe?
Yes. Chilled and controlled-ambient pallets travel as groupage on our UK↔Europe lanes in a shared reefer trailer with goods at the same temperature. Frozen goods and mixed temperatures need a dedicated reefer or van.
Do you provide a temperature record?
Yes — the reefer unit logs the temperature throughout the journey and you receive the log with the POD on request. This is what food safety audits and pharmaceutical GDP documentation ask for.
What paperwork does food need between the UK and the EU?
Products of animal origin, plants and plant products need an export health or phytosanitary certificate in addition to the customs declaration and must enter through a border control post. We plan the route around the BCP, check the certificates before loading and time the crossing so the load does not wait with the fridge running.
Do you deliver frozen goods within the UK?
Yes — frozen at −18 °C and chilled deliveries within Great Britain, from a pallet to a full reefer, including booked slots at supermarket and food-service distribution centres.
Does the truck chill a warm load?
No — the unit maintains temperature, it does not bring a warm load down. Goods must be pre-cooled to transport temperature and packed so air can circulate; the temperature and allowed deviation go on the booking and in box 13 of the CMR.
